National Honor Society
The Sr. Teresa Trayers, SND Chapter of the National Honor Society at Bishop Stang High School exists to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in pupils of Bishop Stang High School.
National Honor Society
Our Name: Named after Sr. Teresa Trayers, SND, the last Sister of Notre Dame to staff our school, who served for 24 years until her retirement in 1998.
Chapter Patron: Dedicated to the Virgin Mary under the title Our Lady, Seat of Wisdom. Members are urged to turn to her in prayer and imitate her virtues.
The National Honor Society is primarily a service organization. Each chapter and member is responsible for fulfilling ongoing school and community service commitments.
Service In Our School
Care and Maintenance of the Chapel of the Annunciation
- Weekly cleaning and upkeep by officers and members.
- Decorating and providing floral arrangements for Christmas and Easter seasons.
- Celebrating the Solemnity of the Annunciation with an annual gift to the chapel.
- Volunteering as tutors to support peers academically throughout the school year.
Annual Recognition & Traditions
Faculty/Staff Recognition Day
Celebrated on the feast of St. John Baptist de la Salle (patron saint of teachers) to honor our faculty for modeling NHS characteristics.
Guidance Dept. Recognition Day
Celebrated on the feast of Our Lady of Good Counsel to honor counselors and staff with a Prayer Service and catered lunch.
Service In Our Community
American Red Cross Blood Drives
Our chapter organizes and hosts two annual campus blood drives to serve local medical needs.
Rock-a-thon Food Drive
An annual fall tradition collecting thousands of pounds of food (over 5,000 lbs gathered) to assist three local area food pantries.
