Placement Exam:

At Bishop Stang High School, our commitment to the success of every student begins well before the first day of classes. As part of our thoughtful transition into Spartan Village, newly enrolled freshmen complete a brief placement assessment designed solely to determine the most appropriate academic course levels. Admission decisions have already been made; this process ensures that each student begins high school in classes that both support growth and encourage appropriate challenge.

The 90-minute assessment includes a 60-minute mathematics section and a 30-minute reading and writing section. Results are carefully reviewed alongside prior grades, teacher recommendations, and other academic indicators to provide a holistic understanding of each learner. World Language placement is determined individually, with additional communication provided as needed.

Placement testing will take place on campus on the following dates:

  • Saturday, March 7 at 8:00 AM

  • Saturday, March 14 at 8:00 AM

  • Monday, March 16 at 3:00 PM

Deposited and committed students will receive a registration link to select their preferred testing date and time. After exams are reviewed, families will receive course-level placement recommendations from the Admissions Office.

Rooted in our mission of academic excellence, personal care, and faith-centered formation, this process reflects Bishop Stang’s belief that the right starting point empowers every Spartan to thrive—academically, socially, and spiritually—from day one.

HSPT Placement Exam (Not Required to apply to Bishop Stang):

Applicants for grade 9 are no longer required to submit secondary school placement test results as part of the application process (HSPT or SSAT). We do require the submission of a standardized test such as; MAP, MCAS, PSAT, RICAP, SSAT, STAR for the purpose of course level placement. Usually these results are on file at the student's current school and are submitted as part of their academic record. If your child has not taken any standardized testing within the last year, we will inform you if an assessment will be required .

Accepted Student and Parent Night:

Tuesday, February 10, 2026; 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
All accepted students and their parents/guardians are invited to join us for a special event just for them. Families will be introduced to a number of members of our school community including Administration, Department Chairpersons, faculty, students and current parents. Each academic department will give a brief presentation highlighting the incoming freshman course options, course level placement criteria, as well as, the progression of skill development and future academic opportunities specific to the department.

Parents will have a chance to speak with current parents about important topics such as navigating carpooling and students will have a chance to socialize with future friends. Our hope is that all will leave with a solid understanding of the exceptional programs we provide our students here at Bishop Stang. Attendance is not necessary but is highly encouraged.

The Spartan School Store will be open from 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm.
