Like she did last year, Fernandes will lead the way with her experience and all-around strong play. “She’s just amazing,” said Letourneau. “She’s got great vision. She passes exceptionally well. She’s got good size for a guard and she’s a great shooter.” When Fernandes got hurt toward the end of last season, Markey stepped in and delivered as a freshman. “She’s another player that is exciting,” Letourneau said. “She’s extremely quick and athletic and she can take the ball to the basket.” Caldwell and Senna also saw action as freshmen a year ago and are expected to have a big presence on the boards this winter. The Spartans welcome Carreau, a sophomore guard, who missed last season with a torn ACL. “She’ll share the role of point guard,” Letourneau said. “She plays great defense and is a strong rebounder.” Newcomers who should have an impact are James, Riedl and Katz. “We’re playing a really challenging conference so we have to play really strong defense and box out and rebound,” Letourneau of joining the Catholic Central League. “The key is having composure on offense. They’re a fast team and want to run but when they get out fast, they sometimes can’t slow themselves down.” Read the full article HERE.
