Spartan volleyball is back and off to an exciting start for the Fall season! Although the girls team was not victorious in their season opener against New Bedford they played some great ball and showed that they'll be a team to watch. Coach Amanda Tarantelli told the Standard-Times that her young team is "strong all around. We don’t have to rely on just one player. We can rely on 10 players. It’s awesome.” In addition to a well-rounded team of contributors, senior Kiera Ackah was highlighted by the S-T as one of the "5 Players to Watch" in 2020 volleyball (Click HERE to read that article by Laurie Los). Of yesterday's game Coach Tarantelli said “I’m so proud of them. It was a great start to the season. Obviously, we’d like a win, but it was still a great start.” Of note from Stang's first indoor hosting gig during this unusual season the Standard-Times columnest Brendan Kurie writes "The commitment to social distancing was impressive by the Stang athletic department. Those there to watch the varsity game waited outside until the end of the JV game, after which the gym was completely emptied. An extremely limited number of fans, who had registered beforehand, were checked in at the front door and then seated on taped Xs distanced six feet apart on the bleachers." We wish the Spartans a great match when they host Saint Mary's this Saturday!
