Bishop Stang High School Launches College Gateway Dual Enrollment Program
Dartmouth, MA - February 21, 2018
Bishop Stang High School has announced the launch of the College Gateway Program, offering students the opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school. College credits earned in an approved program will be recognized as credit earned toward Bishop Stang’s graduation requirements. Dual enrollment courses will be recognized on Bishop Stang transcripts and will be factored into the Bishop Stang GPA using the same weight as Advanced Placement courses.
Regarding the launch of the College Gateway Program, President/Principal, Peter Shaughnessy noted: “Given the cost of college today, and the increased expectations placed on high school students, we wanted to offer more opportunities for Bishop Stang students to earn college credit while still in high school. Enrolling in college level courses can help our students to better determine future majors and careers, provide greater flexibility, and relieve student stress. In concert with current AP offerings, students who participate in this program will potentially be able to reduce the total years and cost of a college degree.”
Students can apply up to 3 dual enrollment courses per year towards their Bishop Stang program of studies. Dual enrollment courses will be applied to the current academic year (i.e. credits a student earns between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020 will be applied to the 2019-2020 academic year). Further details about how the program works are found on the school’s website at bishopstang.org/academics.
Bishop Stang High School looks forward to growing our partnerships with institutions who offer dual enrollment for high school students:
