President's Welcome

Dear Families of the Bishop Stang Community,

We begin March at the third week of Lent and we end March on Easter Sunday - the final day of the month. As part of our Lenten reflection, some educators are reading He Leadeth Me, an account by Father Walter Ciszek, S.J. who was arrested and spent 23 years in Russian prisons and the labor camps of Siberia in the mid-20th century for simply being a priest. In his writing Father Cisek captures the essence of our Lenten journey when he writes, “We had to look at our daily lives, at everything that crossed our path each day with the eyes of God; learn to see His estimate of things, places, and above all people, recognize that He had a goal and purpose in bringing us into contact with these things and these people and strive always to do that will - His will - every hour of every day in the situations he has placed us.” What a remarkable passage that captures the essence of rekindling our faith during this Lenten season, to see and experience all things in the eyes of God. May we all appreciate the things that cross our path each day - the good and the challenges knowing that God is with us on our journey.

There are many prayerful opportunities for our community this Lenten season from retreats for the young women and men in our upper grades to our first-ever Catholic Athletes for Christ retreat on March 13th. Additionally, there will be time for our students to experience the Sacrament of Reconciliation on March 11th and March 12th, while all educators will have their retreat on Monday, March 18th. Please keep all of us in your prayers as we strive to meet the need to see all things and people through the eyes of God.

In March we will also be making final preparations to “Sail Away” for our largest fundraising event of the year, the 37th Annual Auction. If you want to enjoy a wonderful evening experiencing the spirit and generosity of Spartan Village, join us on Friday, April 5th! Buy a ticket, invite your friends, and connect with other Stang parents, alumni, and supporters. Last year was a record in both participation and generous donations and we hope to set another one this year. If you cannot make it in time for our “Sail Away” departure, consider donating an item, placing a business ad, or being a sponsor. The proceeds from this event support everything we do at Stang. During the live auction, there will also be an appeal to support the “Angel Fund” for financial aid. Again, If you cannot attend but wish to support the Angel Fund, please contact Pam Cook in the Advancement Office, at [email protected].

Wishing you all a most peaceful Lenten season,

James Benson, Ed.S
